The Shaker Historical Society is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, established in 1947 to preserve and promote the history of:

  • North Union Village , one of 24 Shaker communities nationwide, originally located in what is today Shaker Heights and portions of Cleveland Heights . It was in operation from 1822 to 1889.

  • Shaker Heights , a model, streetcar suburb that was planned and developed by Oris Paxton and Mantis James Van Sweringen in the first decades of the 20th century. Today, about three-quarters of Shaker Heights is on the National Register of Historic Places; and

  • Warrensville Township , established in 1814.
The Society presents exhibits, programs and events, and operates the Shaker Historical Museum , the Elizabeth Nord Library, and the Spirit Tree Shop year-round, five-days per week

The Shaker Historical Society gratefully acknowledges the citizens of Cuyahoga County for their support through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture. The Shaker Historical Society and Museum is an Ohio Historical Society Site.
